Megunticook Golf Course is a 9 hole private course located in Rockport, Maine. This course first opened for play in 1884. The course was the design of Albert Taylor.
This course is a must play if you get the opportunity. From the classic club house (the oldest in Maine) that mirrors your image of a main hunting lodge (all wood, 20 foot ceilings, exposed beams, rock fireplaces, wooden floors, 100 year lineage of club presidents photos) this is a real treasure.
Although only a 9 hole course, the 9 holes are comparable to the front or back nine of any high end championship course. Hole #2 alone is worth the chance to play Megunticook. You hit from a hill tee box elevated 60 to 90 feet. You look out to the green 300 plus yards away that sits within 20 yards of Penobscot Bay. This is a real signature hole and the rest of the course will also delight you with its ambiance and shot making demands. Several of the holes provide hit it and rip it opportunities with length and wide landing areas. This course will provide a nice challenge for golfers of all skill levels.

Wow, what a great course. I was fortunate to be invited by a member. The member guest rate was in the $20 neighborhood as I recall. I thought this was a real bargain. This course is a classic, just what you would image in a classic Maine private course. The clubhouse is a must see. If I were making a movie that had a 1920s golf theme, this would be the setting. The course was very well maintained, the layout was all you could hope for, and at least 3 of the nine holes could be described as memorable. This course plays like an 18 hole course. To Sandy and Isabel who shared with me, Rockport, the 4th of July, duck-pin bowling, lobster feasts, wine, their home and Megunticook golf club, thank you. I will always remember the great time and hospitality.
